Valerie Rose GALLERY SHOW OPENING

Funded by the California Arts Council Impact Grant, Valerie Rose is our second of five Artists in Residence participating in this year-long program. From Valerie's website (linked below):

I am a visual artist. I am an illustrator, painter, paper cut animator, and muralist. I am self-taught and all of my work is hand-drawn.

I am a half-Deaf CODA (child of Deaf adults). My first language is American Sign Language. The Deaf world is very visual, so I feel the most connected to drawing, painting, and using my hands. As an activist, I use my art to support causes that matter to me. I am a brain hemorrhage survivor and often reflect on this near-death experience with my personal artwork. I live in Northern California, where I am experimenting with mediums and making whatever I feel like.
